On existing buildings Andrew Townsend Architect's approach involves developing a brief with clients to meet their specific needs combined with respect for the well-being of the existing building and setting; ATA’s approach to the conservation and adaption of buildings in our care aims to ensure their long-term, sustainable future.

Our new work in ancient settings has a recognisable signature based on the formulation of an appropriate design idiom in which form, scale and detailing are compatible with the existing buildings. We strive to make connections between new and existing work without resorting to pastiche or restoration. 

On all projects, ATA aim to ensure energy-efficient, cost-effective and safe systems of construction and building use.
