Jane Root was educated at Cambridge and Bristol Universities and has developed a role as a buildings historian, both on a freelance basis and, since 2007, as a consultant to ATA. Her work with the practice includes documentary research, field investigation and report writing; completed projects for ATA include a Conservation Management Plan for Berkeley Castle, a nationwide study of historic productive walled gardens on behalf of English Heritage and research projects supporting proposals for conservation and alterations to a range of historic buildings.
